The Abadiado Route: The Castle of Montearagón and Vadiello.

The Castle of Montearagón, an important Christian stronghold, was erected by the Aragonese king Sancho Ramirez and had strategic importance for the reconquest of the city of Huesca, the first step in moving towards Zaragoza.

Years later it became a powerful monastery with jurisdiction over a wide area that formed the “Abadiado of Montearagón”, a religious fortress which for centuries owned vast tracts of land. Nearby Vadiello is a scenic and privileged enclave in the Sierra de Guara, where nature is at its best. The waters of the reservoir reflect the spectacular rock formations of the Mallos.

Ligüerri, San Jorge, the Puro, the Mitra and Pico Borón which rises imposingly to 1310 metres. Griffon vultures, Egyptian vultures, ospreys and other birds of prey build their nests in the crevices of the rocks. The enclave offers an exceptional viewpoint over the gorges of the Guatizalema river.
